Home healthcare worker charged with financial exploitation
The Western Springs Police Department arrested and charged a suspect, Cressida Barthelemy, with one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly/Disabled (Class 3 Felony). Police believe the suspect may have used multiple names while working as a home healthcare provider. Burlington Avenue infrastructure project set to begin in early September
The Village is facilitating a pedestrian and Central Business District improvement project utilizing Tax Increment Financing (TIF) and Federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding. This project will be separated into two phases, starting in early September and finishing in summer 2025. The project area is Burlington Avenue, from Wolf Road to Grand Avenue. The work is generally focused on the south half of the roadway and south side sidewalk area.

Cook County seeks input on future of ARPA programs
Cook County is launching its “Community Voices” series, with the first of four community meetings this week. Cook County residents are encouraged to share their thoughts on which American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) programs should continue after 2026. The first meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 28, from 6 - 7 pm at 69 W. Washington in Chicago (22nd Floor, Rooms G & H).

Western Springs Market to feature bounce house after resident's request
On August 28, the Western Springs Market will host a special event inspired by a young resident's request. A few months ago, a child named Lucy sent a letter to the Village asking for a place where kids could jump and play. While public trampolines were not feasible, the Village arranged for a bounce house instead.

Public Works announces branch pickup following August 16 storm
Last evening, portions of the community south of 47th Street experienced heavy rainfall and high winds. Residents in these areas who have downed branches from the storm event may bring them to the curb, where Public Works crews will begin pickup next week. It is not necessary to submit a work request for pickup following this event.

Desplaines Valley targets floodwater mosquitoes amid West Nile Virus concerns
Recent heavy rains combined with warm temperatures are expected to result in a significant hatch of floodwater mosquitoes, which, although not involved in disease transmission, are known for being extremely aggressive biters. The Desplaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District (The District) is actively targeting floodwater sources to prevent the emergence of adult mosquitoes.

Precautionary boil order issued for parts of Old Town North after water main break
A precautionary boil order has been issued for parts of the Old Town North subdivision, specifically areas west of Central Avenue and south of Oak Street. The order is in effect until 9:00 PM on July 2, 2024, following a water main break near the intersection of Hampton Avenue and Hillgrove Avenue.
