The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) has been receiving reports of an email extortion scam. Residents are being told that their phones have been hacked and that sensitive personal information will be shared with their entire contact list unless they make a payment within 24 hours.

"This is a scam - do not engage with the sender of the email, or scan the QR code that is included in the message," stated the WSPD.

Further details can be found on the WSPD's official website.
