The Village of Western Springs has received the Government Finance Officers Association's (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2024 budget. This award signifies a commitment to adhering to the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
To earn this distinction, the Village had to meet nationally recognized guidelines that evaluate how well an entity's budget functions as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. The budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories. The most recent recipients of the Budget Award and their corresponding budget documents are posted quarterly on GFOA's website.
In addition to this recognition, Western Springs also received the GFOA Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the year ending December 31, 2022. This marks the 29th consecutive year that the Village has been honored with this award.
"Congratulations to Director of Finance, John Mastandona, and the Finance Department staff for their dedication to excellence in financial reporting and budgeting," said a spokesperson from the Village.
