Several residents have reported receiving phone calls from an individual posing as a representative of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, claiming they missed jury duty. The caller knows the names and addresses of the residents, which lends credibility to the scam. Victims are instructed to pay money to avoid arrest and are asked to provide or confirm personal information. Additionally, the caller warns that visiting the Sheriff's office in person will result in immediate arrest.
Authorities emphasize that these communications are fraudulent and should be ignored. "The Office of Jury Administration will never phone, text, or email asking for social security numbers or any other private and confidential information," officials stated. They clarified that all legitimate jury-related communications are sent via First-Class or Certified U.S. Mail.
