After a distinguished 38-year career with the fire service, Western Springs Fire Chief Mike Kelly will retire on September 20, 2024.

"Chief Kelly has been an integral part of our community and his leadership will be greatly missed," said Mayor John Smith. "We wish him all the best in his retirement."

Kelly began his career as a firefighter in 1986 and steadily rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief in 2010. During his tenure, he implemented numerous safety protocols and was instrumental in modernizing the department's equipment.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to have served this community," Kelly stated. "I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing personal interests."

The search for a new fire chief will commence immediately, according to city officials.

"We are committed to finding a successor who will continue Chief Kelly's legacy of excellence," said City Manager Jane Doe.

Kelly's retirement marks the end of an era for the Western Springs Fire Department, which has seen significant advancements under his leadership.
