Riverside invites residents to join sesquicentennial time capsule project
In honor of the Village of Riverside's 150th anniversary of incorporation, residents are invited to participate in the Sesquicentennial Time Capsule project. For $150, individuals can purchase a Time Caplet (measuring approximately 10" x 3" x 3") which will be sealed inside a stainless-steel Heritage Time Capsule in December 2025.

Effective DIY methods for controlling mosquito populations
Sprays only kill adult mosquitoes that fly directly into the mist. Resting adults or mosquito larvae are not affected. The insecticide used in spraying dissipates within 1-3 days. Adult mosquitoes generally fly at dusk and dawn. Public health departments spray in the evenings during mosquito-borne disease outbreaks; spraying at other times is usually ineffective. However, spraying also kills lightning bugs, butterflies, and bees.

Vehicle stickers and pet tags now available; renewals due by September 30
Vehicle stickers and pet tags are now available for purchase. Renewal invoices have been mailed to all residences and are due by September 30. For information on how to renew online, residents can visit the Vehicle Sticker and Pet Tag webpages. New residents or those purchasing a vehicle sticker for the first time should obtain a new sticker within 30 days of moving to the Village or acquiring a new vehicle or pet.

Illinois Department of Transportation reopens Forest Avenue Bridge
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has reopened Forest Avenue Bridge to pedestrian and vehicle traffic. While there may be some single-lane closures over the next few weeks to finish the construction, IDOT will notify the Village when this occurs.

Metra Commuter Lot construction set to begin in Riverside
The Village of Riverside has announced that the Metra Commuter Lot 8 Green Parking Lot Project will commence on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The project involves removing the existing asphalt pavement and replacing it with permeable subbase granular material and permeable pavers. Additionally, staircases, segments of curb and gutters, and sidewalks will be replaced. A bio-retention facility will also be installed adjacent to the parking lot.
