The Village of Riverside has announced that the Metra Commuter Lot 8 Green Parking Lot Project will commence on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. The project involves removing the existing asphalt pavement and replacing it with permeable subbase granular material and permeable pavers. Additionally, staircases, segments of curb and gutters, and sidewalks will be replaced. A bio-retention facility will also be installed adjacent to the parking lot.
Parking Lot 8 is situated on the south side of East Burlington Street, approximately 150 feet east of Longcommon Road.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of September. Construction hours are scheduled from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If necessary, work may extend to Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but no work will occur on Sundays.
Access Restrictions
During construction, access to Parking Lot 8 will be closed. All commuter parking spaces have been temporarily reassigned to Lot 1, located directly west of the train station. Townhome residents who use the west side of the parking lot for garage access will maintain access until August 12th; after this date, they are requested to park on East Quincy Street until project completion. The Police Department is aware of these changes and will not issue tickets during this period; placards for overnight street parking will be provided.
Starting August 12th, restrictions will also apply to the Arcade Building Business Parking Lot. Personnel and patrons must park their vehicles on Quincy Street during this time.
