The Cicero Fire Department Open House on Sunday, September 1, 2024, began with favorable weather and an atmosphere of community engagement and education. Hosted by Fire Chief Jeff Penzkofer, the event provided residents an opportunity to meet and interact with local first responders in a relaxed setting. Chief Penzkofer expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We get to showcase what we do in a more social setting. Instead of meeting the community at emergency calls, they can come to our house, and we can show them a little hospitality.”
Commuter Lot 8 Green Parking Lot construction continued last week. The General Contractor (MYS) completed 90% of the stone base and started framing the curb adjacent to the Metra platform. Over the next week, the contractor will continue framing and pouring the curb and gutter. The contractor will also continue building and shaping the curb and gutter, install a waterproof barrier on the east side of the parking lot, and finish laying the stone foundation in the east corner.
The Village of Lyons is partnering with Strive Fitness to host the Spooky Shuffle 5K Walk/Run on Sunday, October 20. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes as they run or walk through the course. The event will begin at 9 AM, with check-in scheduled from 8 AM to 8:45 AM at Smith Park, located across from Lyons Village Hall.
State Sen. Javier Loera Cervantes, whose 1st District includes Brookfield, has arranged for the Illinois Secretary of State's Mobile DMV to be onsite at Brookfield Village Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Western Springs Police Department arrested and charged a suspect, Cressida Barthelemy, with one count of Financial Exploitation of the Elderly/Disabled (Class 3 Felony). Police believe the suspect may have used multiple names while working as a home healthcare provider. The Village of Brookfield is set to begin construction related to lead water service replacements in the 3700 block of Grand Boulevard. The project is scheduled to commence on Monday, Sept. 9 and aims for substantial completion by Friday, Sept. 13.
