The Brookfield Farmers Market, voted the No. 1 farmers market in Illinois in 2023 during a contest sponsored by the American Farmland Trust, opens for the season on Saturday, June 1.
Parent Patrol volunteers were honored for 15 years of service to the school children of the Town of Cicero at a luncheon hosted on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Cicero Community Center. Town President Larry Dominick and the Town of Cicero Board of Trustees Clerk Maria Punzo-Arias, Supervisor Joe Virruso, Assessor Emilio “Emo” Cundari, Collector Fran Reitz, and Trustees Victor Garcia, Bob Porod, John Cava, and Blanca Vargas joined Parent Patrol Coordinator Ismael Vargas and officials from the town’s local school district to celebrate the anniversary.
Village staff and members of the Baxter & Woodman Consulting Engineers team presented the final Capital Infrastructure Plan (CIP) at the February 12, 2024, Board Meeting. The CIP is a comprehensive review of all the Village’s infrastructure to estimate project costs, prioritize projects based on an engineering risk assessment, and provide the Village with tools for long-term planning. A flag-raising ceremony and community cookout will anchor Oak Park’s celebration of Juneteenth, considered by many as the true anniversary of emancipation in the United States. The events are coordinated by the Juneteenth Committee of community leaders and sponsored by the Village’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. This year's theme is “Remembering OUR History and Claiming OUR Future.” The committee is co-chaired by Village Clerk Christina M. Waters and Chris Thomas, Founder and CEO of YourPassion1st.
