Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi is inviting veterans to participate in a virtual workshop called "Property Tax Savings for Veterans" on November 20. The event will provide information about property tax exemptions available to veterans, which may help lower their property tax bills.

The workshop will be livestreamed at noon on both Facebook and YouTube. Topics covered will include exemptions for veterans with disabilities, returning veterans, and World War II veterans. The session will also explain how to check which exemptions were applied to a home in the previous year, as well as guidance on how and where to apply for these exemptions.

Veterans who think they may have missed out on an exemption in the past can file for a Certificate of Error dating back to the 2021 tax year.

Brookfield veterans are encouraged to reach out to agencies such as the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County and the Cook County Department of Veterans Affairs for further support.

"Property Tax Savings for Veterans," a virtual event where you can learn about a variety of property tax-saving exemptions you may be entitled to in order to reduce your property tax bill," said Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi.
