Cook County officials have announced that the second installment property tax bills for Tax Year 2024 are expected to be mailed to approximately 1.8 million property owners on November 14, 2025. The due date for these payments is set for December 15, 2025.

Property tax bills in Cook County are sent out twice a year, and their preparation involves multiple processes and stakeholders to ensure accuracy and timely delivery. Recent changes to the county’s technology infrastructure have affected both the processes and timelines related to property tax billing.

In response to anticipated delays, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle introduced a Bridge Loan Program. This initiative was designed to provide no-interest loans totaling hundreds of millions of dollars to local taxing jurisdictions across the county. According to the announcement, "The Bridge Loan Program was developed to offset fiscal challenges that local taxing districts may have experienced due to the delay of the tax bills and offered LTJs a lower cost borrowing option. Qualifying taxing bodies such as municipalities, park districts, schools, etc. were able to apply for short-term loans. In total, nearly 20 LTJs will receive over $20 million from this program."

Although President Preckwinkle does not have a statutory role in administering tax bills, her office has played a part in addressing financial challenges faced by local governments due to billing delays.

Additionally, regular meetings are held by the Office of the President with a working group composed of property tax stakeholders. The group meets weekly with the goal of restoring bill timelines and making improvements toward an equitable and efficient system for residents and businesses in Cook County.
