Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle has announced that several county buildings will be illuminated with green lights from November 4 to 11 in recognition of Operation Green Light for Veterans. This initiative is part of a nationwide campaign, led by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, aimed at raising awareness about the challenges faced by military veterans and promoting available resources.
Participating facilities include the Cook County Building at 118 N. Clark St., George W. Dunne Cook County Administrative Building, 161 N. Clark St., as well as courthouses in Rolling Meadows, Skokie, Markham, Bridgeview, Maywood, the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse, Cook County Juvenile Court, and Domestic Violence Courthouse.
Now in its fifth year, Operation Green Light focuses on supporting veterans during their transition to civilian life by connecting them with counties and providing educational opportunities related to military culture and suicide prevention. The initiative also encourages residents and organizations to show support by changing one light bulb to green.
“By shining a green light, veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported,” according to the announcement.
The campaign invites participants across the country to share their involvement on social media using #OperationGreenLight. More information about Operation Green Light can be found through online resources.
