The Brookfield Conservation Commission is organizing an event called Meet the Creek on Saturday, October 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Kiwanis Park picnic pavilion. The event aims to highlight the Salt Creek and its surrounding environment.
Attendees will have opportunities to take canoe rides, observe live animals, and see fish and other wildlife that inhabit the area around Salt Creek. There will also be a scavenger hunt designed for children. Representatives from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and the Brookfield Native Plants Club will provide information about ways to protect the creek.
According to organizers, "Canoeing is free and offered on a first come, first served basis. Children riding in canoes must be 3 years or older and minors must be accompanied by an adult. Life preservers will be supplied and are required."
The event is open to all at no cost. Kiwanis Park is located next to Brookfield Village Hall at 8820 Brookfield Avenue. Those interested in learning more about Meet the Creek or volunteering can contact brookfieldconservation@gmail.com.
