Metra will introduce a prototype Café Car this fall, rotating it across several of its busiest train lines and stations. The initiative aims to gather rider feedback on the new concept and potential amenities.
The Café Car will begin service on the Rock Island Line from September 30 to October 2, followed by a display at LaSalle Street Station on October 6. Passengers are encouraged to tour the car and participate in an onboard survey. Those who complete the survey will receive complimentary snacks and beverages.
Following its debut, the Café Car will move to other lines: BNSF during the week of October 13, Milwaukee District North the week of October 20, Milwaukee District West the week of October 27, Union Pacific North the week of November 3, Union Pacific Northwest the week of November 10, and Union Pacific West the week of November 17. The full schedule for each line is available at metra.com/CafeCar.
To create this prototype, Metra modified one of its cars by removing half of its second level and installing counters, stools, booths, and tables. The interior has been redecorated to offer a different atmosphere compared to standard Metra cars.
Metra is seeking input from riders through surveys as part of this trial period for the Café Car.
