The Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS) is assessing the impact of severe storms and flash flooding that took place from August 16 to August 19, 2025. Residents affected by these events are encouraged to submit an initial damage assessment by Friday, August 22, 2025, at 5 p.m.

EMRS is working in partnership with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to gather additional data on the extent of damages. This information will be used to determine if Cook County, together with the City of Chicago, nearby counties, and IEMA, can seek further assistance for residents. The purpose of collecting this data is to help state and local emergency management officials understand the effects of recent natural disasters across Illinois.

"Reporting damages to emergency management is voluntary. It is not a substitute for reporting damage to your insurance agency and does not guarantee disaster relief assistance."

Residents can complete the survey online at cookgov.me/august2025storms or use a QR code provided in public communications. The survey is available in both English and Spanish; users can select their preferred language by clicking on the top left corner in either mobile or web browser versions.

Cook County officials state they will continue collaborating with suburban municipalities, the City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois to review storm damage reports and pursue any possible aid for those affected.
