First Avenue will be closed to traffic from Ogden Avenue to just south of the Forest Avenue/Ridgewood Road intersection beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 15 and continuing until 5 p.m. on Monday, September 22. The closure is scheduled so BNSF can conduct repairs on the railroad bridge over First Avenue.

Road barriers will be set up at Ogden Avenue and just south of the Forest/Ridgewood intersection during this period. This arrangement means that Hollywood residents living south of the railroad tracks will have access only via the Hollywood Avenue grade crossing.

Travelers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near Riverside-Brookfield High School, Hollywood School, and Brookfield Zoo’s South Gate. Increased traffic is expected on Washington, Prairie, and Maple Avenues as a result of the closure.

"Please allow more time for travel in and around Riverside-Brookfield High School, Hollywood School and Brookfield Zoo’s South Gate. The closure of First Avenue may also increase traffic on Washington, Prairie and Maple Avenues. Thanks for your patience, and drive carefully."
