The Cook County Board of Commissioners has approved over $81 million in funding for transportation projects aimed at improving road and bridge infrastructure throughout the county. This initiative is expected to enhance economic development and the quality of life for both residents and visitors.

"Investing in transportation infrastructure provides our communities with improved mobility as we bring our roads and bridges into a state of good repair," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. "The value of these investments goes beyond the project itself. This work supports community development, creates jobs, and provides quality of life benefits to our residents."

Projects will be carried out across various regions within Cook County:

- In Burr Ridge, $731,138 is allocated for professional design engineering services to reconstruct the I-55 frontage road from I-294 to County Line Road.

- Chicago will receive $10.5 million for engineering and construction projects, including street resurfacing, new sidewalks, traffic signal modernizations, traffic calming treatments, and curb repair.

- Countywide efforts amounting to $42,125,700 will focus on pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing as well as sidewalk ramp and traffic signal improvements on 25 roadways.

Specific areas in Southern Cook County such as Wolf Road from W. 143rd Street to W. 135th Street, Holbrook Road from Dixie Highway to Halsted Street among others are slated for improvement.

In Northern Cook County, locations like Arcadia Street from Linder Avenue to Frontage Road and Church Street/Frontage Road from Long Avenue to Gross Point Road are included in the plan.

Additionally:

- $10.5 million is designated countywide for professional engineering services to advance preliminary design, environmental review, traffic studies, and other analyses.

- Another $3.5 million will support structural program management services focused on bridge inventory management and structure inspections.

South Holland will see bridge replacement projects costing $13,855,985 at 143rd Street over Tinley Creek and 170th Street over Thorn Creek starting this summer with completion anticipated by 2027.
