In the early hours of December 4, 2024, Riverside Police stopped a vehicle for traffic violations in Riverside. The driver was seen retrieving a firearm during the stop and subsequently fled. Shortly after, Forest Park Police spotted the same vehicle and attempted another stop, but the driver evaded contact once more. The vehicle then entered River Forest, left the road, and collided with a business on Lathrop around 3:07 AM.

The suspect, identified as Andres D. Adan from Harvey, Illinois, exited the vehicle and entered an unoccupied building. Police surrounded the area and instructed him to exit. Adan fired a handgun at a River Forest Police Officer from inside before surrendering without further incident. He was taken into custody with assistance from Forest Park, Oak Park, and Riverside Police.

Adan faces charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm related to the River Forest incident. Additional charges include traffic offenses from incidents in Riverside and Forest Park. Following a detention hearing today, he remains in custody.

Chief James O'Shea expressed support for Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke's efforts to address violent gun offenses: “We commend newly sworn in Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke for taking violent gun offenders off the streets, especially those who target law enforcement officers." He emphasized community support for police officers against threats.
