Parade participants will march north on Ridgeland Avenue to Augusta Street and disperse at Whittier School. The route offers multiple viewing opportunities along the way.
More than 50 groups typically participate in the parade, including social and special interest groups, community organizations, athletic teams, politicians, businesses, service organizations, children’s groups, animal lovers with their pets, and musical ensembles. Some participants bring floats and drive vintage cars. Others play music, carry banners, ride decorated bicycles, and skate. Most dress up in red, white, and blue to commemorate the nation’s birthday and celebrate Oak Park’s diversity.
An appearance by the Jesse White Tumblers is expected to be among the highlights of this year’s parade.
The deadline to register for participation in the parade is June 28. Registration can be completed online.
The Oak Park Police Department reminds residents that road closures near the parade route will start as early as 8:30 a.m. and may remain in place until 12:30 p.m. Residents are advised to observe all no parking signs and allow extra time to navigate around the parade route.
Fireworks are not planned for July 4th in Oak Park this year. In previous years, planning and funding for fireworks displays were provided by private businesses or donations; however, no such entity stepped forward this year.
