J. Sterling Morton East High School reports 32% truancy rate

The truancy rate at J. Sterling Morton East High School rose to 32 percent during the 2018-19 school year, according to a West Cook News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The school's average daily attendance rate was 92 percent.

Students are considered chronically truant if they miss five percent of school days or more per year without acceptable excuses. The J S Morton HSD 201 saw a chronic truancy rate of 25 percent during the 2018-19 school year, while the statewide rate was 13 percent.

The school enrolled 3,476 students in the 2018-19 school year, and average daily attendance was at 92 percent for the year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported. The average daily rate of attendance across the state was 94 percent.
