Cicero FD responds to 241 fires in 2016

Cicero Fire Department responded to 796 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in Cicero included 241 fires - 95 structure fires, 49 vehicle fires and 94 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $1,941,675 in fire loss - or about $8,057 per fire.

The department also received 555 false calls, including 37 malicious calls and 518 other false calls.

Five fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Cicero Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 78 active employees and 94 retired or inactive employees, was $5,369,309 in debt as of December 2015, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $22,279 for every fire in 2016.
