The River Forest Police Department has announced an increase in patrols throughout July to target speeding and other traffic violations. This initiative is part of the "Speeding Catches Up With You" campaign, aiming to enhance road safety.
The department is collaborating with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies across the state. The objective is to curb speeding and enforce traffic laws more strictly.
Chief Greenwood emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits, stating: "Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous," adding that "Speed limits aren’t a suggestion – they are the law."
Speeding poses significant risks by impairing a driver's ability to maneuver safely around vehicles or obstacles. The intensified enforcement aims to reduce these dangers by issuing tickets to offenders during this campaign.
The increased patrols will be visible throughout River Forest and statewide from July 8-31. This effort is funded by federal highway safety funds administered by IDOT and aligns with their broader "It’s Not a Game" media campaign.
