A construction project aimed at improving pedestrian connectivity and safety north of the Congress Park Metra Station will start on Monday, August 18. The work will take place from the Congress Park tunnel to Southview Avenue.
The project involves excavation of the current site, replacement and widening of the path on the station's north side, upgrades for ADA compliance, replacement of a stone driveway with new concrete pavement, installation of underground storage to meet stormwater management rules set by the Village, and addition of pedestrian lighting for better visibility.
Funding for the $315,000 project comes mainly from a $250,000 Invest in Cook grant provided by Cook County.
According to plans, contractors will focus on lighting improvements through August while maintaining commuter access to the north side of Congress Park Metra Station. In September, concrete and underground work will begin. During this phase, access from Southview Avenue to the station’s north side will be closed for about three weeks.
Substantial completion is expected by late September. The Village will post signs to notify commuters about upcoming closures.
