The Des Plaines Valley Mosquito Abatement District has alerted the Village about increased mosquito activity due to current warm and dry conditions, which may lead to a rise in West Nile Virus (WNV) transmission. While WNV-positive mosquito samples have been detected, the risk of transmission remains low at present.

Residents are advised to take precautions against mosquitoes and potential diseases they carry. Recommendations include inspecting and repairing window screens, eliminating openings around air conditioners and vents, avoiding outdoor activities at dusk, wearing protective clothing, and using insect repellents as directed.

Crews have been treating stormwater catch basins since May to prevent mosquito breeding. Residents are encouraged to eliminate standing water sources by disposing of trash that can hold water, cleaning gutters, changing water in bird baths weekly, maintaining swimming pools, overturning containers that collect water, screening rain barrels, aerating ornamental ponds with fish, and disposing of used tires.
