The Brookfield Police Department has announced a collaborative initiative with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to enhance traffic safety efforts statewide. This effort aims to curb speeding through increased patrols throughout July.

"Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous," stated Brookfield Police Lt. Nichols Hahn. "Speed limits aren’t a suggestion -- they are the law."

Speeding poses risks for all motorists by reducing a driver's ability to navigate safely around other vehicles, hazardous objects, or unexpected curves. During this campaign, officers will focus on enforcing posted speed limits rigorously. Motorists found exceeding speed limits will face stops and tickets, particularly on roads like 31st Street, Ogden Avenue, Maple Avenue, Prairie Avenue, and Grand Boulevard—areas known for speed-related accidents.

Drivers should anticipate receiving tickets from the Brookfield Police Department if caught speeding. Increased patrols will be visible throughout Brookfield and across the state until July 31.

This speed enforcement campaign is part of the "Speeding Catches Up with You" initiative and is funded by federal highway safety funds managed by IDOT. It also aligns with IDOT’s larger "It’s Not a Game" media campaign.
