Residents and visitors in the area around Brookfield Zoo and Riverside-Brookfield High School should anticipate increased traffic from June 20 to June 22. This is due to two significant events taking place over the weekend.
Riverside-Brookfield High School will host its annual Summer Shootout basketball tournament, featuring 84 teams. The event is expected to attract hundreds of attendees each day. The tournament will occur on Friday, June 20, from noon to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 21, from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, June 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
High school staff will manage traffic flow around the campus. Visitors are advised to adhere to parking restrictions in residential areas and use main roads for entry and exit.
Additionally, Brookfield Zoo anticipates an increase in visitors on Saturday evening as it hosts the first of three Roaring Nights concerts this summer. The concert series continues with events on July 18 and August 16. Concerts are scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m., with heightened traffic expected between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., as well as from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Brookfield Zoo plans to use electronic message boards for directing traffic toward its parking facilities while preventing vehicles from entering residential neighborhoods. Coordination efforts are underway among Brookfield police, Riverside police, and Brookfield Zoo police to monitor traffic conditions and mitigate impacts on local residents.
