Downtown Brookfield is set to undergo significant changes this spring and summer as part of a $4.5 million streetscape improvement project. The project aims to enhance the 3700 block of Grand Boulevard and Brookfield Avenue with new sidewalks, parkway trees, lighting, and a repaved roadway.
The improvements will extend along Brookfield Avenue up to Woodside Avenue and north to Washington Avenue. This initiative continues the Village's efforts to maintain and improve its collector routes and business districts. Nearly $4 million in grant funding from the Central Council of Mayors’ Surface Transportation Program has been secured by village staff for these upgrades.
On the 3700 block of Grand Boulevard, work will include full sidewalk replacement, curb and gutter repairs, brick paver installation, new trees with grates, and updated street lighting. Construction will occur on one side of Grand Boulevard at a time, maintaining parking availability on one side except during final asphalt application. Southbound traffic will remain open throughout construction except during the final paving stage when northbound traffic will be rerouted to Prairie Avenue.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is leading the project, which is expected to begin in April with completion anticipated by early August.
Dan O'Malley from Hancock Engineering presented details about the project's scope and phases to the Brookfield Village Board of Trustees on February 24th. A public meeting will be held for residents and business owners regarding construction phases prior to commencement. For updates, visit brookfieldil.gov or subscribe to their e-newsletter.
