A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Central Stickney School District 110 in Illinois on January 28, 2025. The request, made by West Cook News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, asked for copies of all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study".
The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. As part of their commitment to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, West Cook News sought these records in an electronic format.
In their request, West Cook News emphasized their role as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. They highlighted that access to public records is essential for them to fulfill their professional responsibilities. Given this role in disseminating information, they believe they are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

The average student-to-administrative ratio is 141:1, and the average student-to-teacher ratio is 17:1. Interestingly enough, it appears that 58% of teachers in Illinois have a master's degree or higher.
