The Village of River Forest, represented by Village President Cathy Adduci and the Board of Trustees, has expressed condolences following the death of Oak Park Police Detective Allan Reddins. Detective Reddins was killed in the line of duty on November 29, 2024, while responding to a call involving an armed offender.

The Village of Oak Park released a statement mourning the loss of Detective Reddins and extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. This incident marks the first line-of-duty death for the Oak Park Police Department since 1938.

At approximately 9:36 a.m., the Oak Park Fire Department responded to reports of shots fired in the 800 block of Lake Street. Upon arrival, they found that Detective Reddins had been shot on his left side. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries at around 10:10 a.m.

The police were called after reports that an offender had left a local bank on Lake Street with a gun. The suspect was shot in the leg during the incident and is currently in custody at Loyola University Medical Center, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Detective Reddins, aged 40 and a resident of Chicago, joined the Oak Park Police Department in May 2019. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Oak Park Police Department or provide tips anonymously online.
