Officials from the Cicero Health Department visited the Cicero Senior Center on July 3, 2024, to provide health services directly to seniors. This initiative is part of a partnership between the Cicero Senior Center and the health department to offer free health screenings at the center.
“Our health department is offering onsite health screenings for our seniors. We will be offering vital checks, blood pressure checks and check glucose levels,” said Vanessa Parrish, Director of Public Health Operations. “We are doing our part to try to get more preventative means towards the senior’s healthcare needs and trying to tackle things beforehand as much as possible.”
Upon arrival at the senior center, seniors were provided with fruit and water and could relax by watching a movie while waiting for their screenings. “To do this onsite addresses the barriers for accessibility to our health department, transportation, and their schedules,” shared Director Parrish. “We’re trying to make it more accommodating and easier for our community members to access our health services.”
Seniors expressed their gratitude for receiving these services in a familiar environment. Frank Kraut, a senior resident of Cicero, stated: “It doesn’t get much better than this. This is such a great advantage for us seniors and what the town does for us to keep our health in check, to keep our wellbeing in check, to keep our mentality and out stability in check. It’s a great feature. I’m very appreciative of it.”
The staff of the Cicero Health Department expressed enthusiasm about providing various services directly at the Senior Center. “We hope to keep adding more services and keep doing this on a more consistent basis moving forward,” shared Director Parrish.
Las personas mayores de Cicero ahora podrán aprovechar aún más servicios que se les brindan directamente en el centro para personas mayores de la localidad gracias a esta iniciativa conjunta entre el Centro para personas mayores y el Departamento de Salud de Cicero.
“Nuestro departamento de salud ofrece exámenes de salud aqui para nuestras personas mayores. Ofreceremos controles vitales, controles de presión arterial y controles de niveles de glucosa”, dijo Vanessa Parrish en español.
