Metra, a regional rail service provider, is seeking rider input on its current and future service needs through a survey. This initiative aligns with Metra's transition towards a regional rail service model, which emphasizes all-day service instead of focusing solely on peak morning and evening trains.
In its 2023-27 Strategic Plan titled 'My Metra, Our Future', the company articulated its vision to provide comprehensive regional rail service. Small steps have already been taken towards this goal, with most lines offering enhanced schedules that include more off-peak services.
The Systemwide Network Plan is currently examining potential changes to each rail line. These changes may involve adjusting train schedules and constructing new infrastructure. The plan will steer Metra's operations and capital investments for the next two decades. As part of this study, Metra is eager to hear from riders about their current usage patterns and anticipated future needs in order to better adapt to evolving travel preferences.
The survey can be accessed at metra.com/SNP until June 19, 2024. Furthermore, a virtual public meeting has been scheduled for May 30 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., where the Systemwide Network Plan will be discussed in greater detail. Interested parties can register for the virtual public meeting via metra.com/SNP.
Metra also plans another round of public outreach in early 2025 to allow the public and key stakeholders an opportunity to comment on proposed service concepts. For more information, visit metra.com/SNP.
