Illegal immigrants are being housed in the Countryside area.
The revelation comes after four illegal immigrants were arrested for shoplifting at an Oak Brook Macy's on Tuesday gave their addresses as the American Inn & Suites located at 6401 Joliet Road in La Grange Highlands.
Law enforcement officers successfully apprehended four individuals involved in the retail theft at Oakbrook Center, a popular shopping destination, on the afternoon of Jan. 23.
The incident, which took place at the Oak Brook Macy's, involved theft of retail items.
The suspects were identified as Victor Roman Sevilla-Arteaga, 33, Elvis Alejandro Rodriguez-Rubio, 28, Gabriela Rosedyssalazar-Vasquez and Danielis Michel Vasquez-Arteaga, 27. Officers from the Oak Brook Police Department swiftly responded to the incident reported at 1:21 PM on January 23, 2024, at Oakbrook Center, a popular shopping destination.
The primary officer handling the case, Joshua Potenhauer, successfully detained all four individuals at the north doors of Macy's.
The suspects were apprehended at the north doors of Macy's, and the disposition comment noted that all four individuals were detained successfully.
A desk clerk at the American Inn & Suites located at that address given by the alleged criminals confirmed that illegal immigrants were being housed at the motel. However, the clerk refused to disclose the exact number of illegal immigrants being accommodated.
The clerk was also unaware of the criminal charges against the four arrested for the Macy’s theft.
Countryside Mayor Sean McDermott told West Cook News the American Inn & Suites the suspects noted as their home address is located just over the municipal line in LaGrange Highlands.
McDermott said Countryside itself has no illegal immigrants housed there.
On the same day two illegal immigrants from Chile who are living in Chicago were arrested from stealing over $10,000 worth of goods from the same Macy’s.
"I believe that six felony arrests in one day illustrates that migrant criminal activity is a real problem," Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis told Fox 32. "The amount of these types of arrests that we have had in the last couple of months is significant and would be taxing for any police department. We are well prepared to continue our enforcement efforts and I can assure you that there are easier places to commit these crimes than Oak Brook or DuPage County."
