Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker has selected Bria Scudder to serve as deputy governor for public safety, infrastructure, environment and energy, replacing Deputy Gov. Christian Mitchell, who stepped down earlier this month.
According to a news release from Pritzker’s office, Scudder, who worked as first assistant to Mitchell, will start her new job on April 10.
“Bria Scudder has already shown her dedication to public service and the people of Illinois through her hard work earlier in my administration, and I’m thrilled to welcome her back to continue that work as Deputy Governor,” Pritzker said in a press release on Illinois.gov. “Her portfolio includes some of the most important issues currently facing our state, and I’m looking forward to working with her to continue making Illinois stronger.”
According to the governor’s news release, Scudder currently works for AbbVie, where she is director of State Government Affairs for the Midwest region. In that role, she manages state and local issues for the company y in 12 states.
"I'd like to thank Gov. Pritzker for his leadership and trusting me with such an important role,” Scudder said in the news release from the governor’s office. "I'm looking forward to serving the people of Illinois and making strides towards safer communities, maintaining a world-class transportation system, and meeting our clean energy goals."
Moreover, the governor’s news release noted that she returns to the administration after serving as first assistant deputy governor. While working in the governor’s office, she helped oversee more than 10 state agencies and was instrumental in the rollout of several policy initiatives. The release also noted that she was involved in pandemic response efforts, including obtaining medical supplies for front-line workers and planning the work-from-home efforts for more than 50 state agencies and boards.
