The Village of Brookfield has issued a warning regarding a fraudulent email scam that targets individuals and businesses by impersonating the Planning and Zoning Commission. These emails, sent from addresses like planning.brookfieldil.gov@usa.com, are not from legitimate Village sources.

The emails contain fake invoices requesting wire transfer payments, which the Village does not accept. The fraudulent messages use the Village's address but contain typographical errors. They appear official by using information skimmed from public zoning documents to prompt quick responses.

The Village of Brookfield emphasizes it will never request payment via wire transfer, credit card, or Automated Clearing House (ACH) through email. Recipients of such requests should disregard them immediately.

Village officials advise verifying any communications by checking that official emails end with @brookfieldil.gov and contacting the Village directly at 708-485-7344 for confirmation. Victims of this scam or those who suspect fraud should contact the Brookfield Police Department at 708-485-8131 or reach out to Village Hall for further assistance.
