The Norridge School District Board of Education discussed tuition and fees for the 2023-2024 school year during a recent meeting.

Superintendent Michelle Guzik told the board during its meeting, streamed on YouTube, that tuition for preschool and kindergarten has been $2,600 for the full year since the programs were started several years ago. This covers full-day programs, with the first half of the day free and open to the public.

“I know that we don’t like to increase fees, but I think we're at a point when the increase of curriculum, the increase of paper that is costing [us], those classroom workbooks, electronic technology that we're using in the district that we need to take this 15% increase,” Guzik told the board during the meeting.

During the meeting, it was suggested that the fee for preschool and kindergarten be increased by 8% to $2,800. The curriculum fee would be increased by 15%, from $150 to $170.

The board learned that the fees have been steady for the last three fiscal years, and the fee hike would also include higher grades, with the Grade 1-2 fee rising to $240, up from $208; grades 3-4 to $245, from $213.

Moreover, the board also noted that other services, such as speech therapy for preschoolers, will also increase.

The board also learned that the district elected to make some fee cuts in 2021, and had been able to maintain those lower fees until recently. As the cost of supplies increases and the district has to maintain computers, fee increases become inevitable.
