The La Grange Village Board of Trustees recently recognized a number of emergency responders who have either been recently hired, promoted within their various departments, or rounded out their careers of service to the citizens of the village.

Board President Mark Kuchler took the time to celebrate these men and women during a Sept. 26 board meeting.

"It's a great day for the village. We're real excited," Kuchler said. "We appreciate the hard work of our fire department. We appreciate the good work that our police department does."

During the meeting, the board promoted James Baum to the rank of fire Captain. Baum has worked with the La Grange Fire Department since 2010 as a firefighter paramedic and previously served in the U.S. Army. He replaces Capt. Dave Rapp, who retired back in May. Eric Jaeger was promoted to Lieutenant to fill the vacancy left by Baum's promotion. Jaeger has served in the fire department since 2009 and is a Marine Corps veteran.

Officers Katelyn Huber, Hector Serna, Brandon Kalush-Camacho, and Benjamin Rietz were also sworn in as probationary police officers for the village. All four recently graduated from the police academy and are starting their field training trial period.

Kuchler also recognized Police Officer Jerry Moncivais who is retiring after spending 21 years with La Grange Police. He's been appointed squad leader multiple times, served in a variety of positions, and is well-loved and respected by officers and citizens alike.
