Village of Berkeley Village Board met May 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1 President Lee called the meeting to order at 6:31 p.m.

Also present: Village Administrator Espiritu, Village Attorney Smith, Assistant Village Administrator Miller, Public Safety Director Larem, Public Works Director Wagner

4 Presentations and Appointment

4.1 Proclamation Honoring Police Commander Thomas Duffy Upon His Retirement from the Village of Berkeley after 23 Years of Public Service

President Lee presented Commander Duffy with a proclamation for his years of service. 

CONGRATULATIONS! Chief Larem commented on Commander Duffy’s exemplary service and outstanding contributions, he will be missed.

4.2 Partner Agency Annual Report – Berk-Hill Baseball

President informed the board 35 children have been enrolled in Berkeley baseball. Berk-Hill baseball will not receive partnership funds until they attend a Village Board meeting.

9.1.1 Trustee Liaison Report

Trustee Graf-Stone highlights the work being done to update personnel also informs the board that staff has been busy getting bids for roof replacement. Work is currently being done on refuse negotiations, per the contract. Staff is working on finalizing the compensation study and will present when ready. The Garden Club has kicked off their programming year.

Trustee Hammar advises all next ad-hoc meeting is 5/12/22 at 6:30 p.m. He states McDermott Dr building construction is going along very well, roof has been placed and concrete will be poured soon.

9.5.1 Trustee Liaison Report

9.5.2 Motion to Approve a Resolution Approving and Authorizing the Execution of an Agreement between the Village of Berkeley, Cook County, Illinois and Baxter & Woodman, Inc. for Phase II Design Engineering of the 2023 Sanitary Rehabilitation Project in an Amount Not to Exceed $69,300.00. Superintendent Wagner informs all of flooding in area today specifically High street.

9.6 Community and Intergovernmental Relations (Chair – Trustee Perez; Co Chair Trustee Graf-Stone)

9.6.1 Trustee Liaison Report

Trustee Perez received confirmation from the Lions club that the hearing aid bus has been scheduled for Wednesday 6/29/22 11-3p. The community round table was a huge success. Trustee Perez informs all the Village received about $6,000 in sponsorship, $3,000 specifically for music in the park. Trustee Perez will be getting together with the neighborhood watch and thinking of ways to promote.

10 Village President

President Lee suggest all residents to attend the ad-hoc committee. Community round table was a success, terrific turn out. He advises all Memorial Day celebration will be 11 a.m. on Monday 5/30/22 and four Berkeley veterans will be honored guests. President Lee states preparation for centennial celebration continues, there will be room for everyone to participate.

11 Village Administrator

Administrator Espiritu thanks everyone for approving the amendment to his employment agreement. Assistant Administrator Miller needs all board members laptops to update. He also will be presenting blackboard connects to neighborhood watch.

12 Village Attorney

Attorney Smith informs all village will be receiving back funds for the demolition costs regarding property at 1420 Speechley Blvd once the home is constructed and sold.
