The residents of Schaumburg recently lined up in their vehicles to receive 70,000 masks that had been purchased for $35,000 from a local vendor.
Senior citizens were given first priority as they are the most vulnerable to COVID-19.
“Day one was yesterday, where we had Schaumburg seniors come through,” Allison Albrecht with the Village of Schaumburg told WGN-9 News. “Day two and day three are more of the general population. And we’re looking forward to giving away as many masks as we can to our residents.”
Five masks were given per car to those who lined up outside of Boomer Stadium.
“We have a family of five in our house, so it helps us out,” resident Anthony Bolger told WGN. “I work at a hotel. So, that fact that I can now go out, use the mask, and not have to worry about coming, washing everything, including this.”
