River Forest Trustee Thomas Cargie, a Democrat, has distinguished his time in public service with his colorful, sophomoric put downs of his political and personal enemies.
If you’re on his bad side, directly or by political affiliation, watch out. He’ll humiliate you in front of the entire lunchroom. He saves some of his best shots for his own constituents, especially those who have distinguished themselves the time-honored way – through their academic and business achievements.
River Forest’s Mick McDonnell, 1992 graduate of the West Point Military Academy and current software entrepreneur, “embarrasses River Forest every day. He’s a clown, and an embarrassment to Marist (high school),” said Cargie, 58, who also attended Marist.

McDonnell’s transgression? He defended President Trump’s January 31 travel ban on China, a decision that in retrospect saved an untold number of Americans from COVID-19 infections.
Another successful River Forest resident who got on Cargie’s bad side, Mindy Credi, a Human Resources executive with PepsiCo, is “akin to the German bourgeoisie who argued that Hitler would pass.”
Cargie, a River Forest Township Committeeperson, is more than just a local serial insulter, though.
Former federal judge and U.S. solicitor general Kenneth Starr is -- at least it’s original -- “a rape-execuing (sic) ass clown.”
Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh is a “sexual predator” and a “drunk rapey frat douchbag (sic).” He’s also a “hardcore pro-lifer.”
Nothing so far on his opinion of Joe Biden, the Democratic presidential nominee, who, unlike Kavanaugh, has a sexual assault claim hanging over him.
President Trump is an “existential threat to the future of this country” and “an incompetent clown.”
Even the First Lady isn’t spared. Melania Trump is a “Russian mail order bride,” Cargie suggests in a post. She’s Slovenian.
Cargie did not respond to a request for comment on his style of public service. His term is up in May 2021.
