Maywood FD responds to 55 fires in 2017

Maywood Fire Department responded to 225 calls in 2017 - 36.4 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Maywood included 55 fires - 20 structure fires, 18 vehicle fires and 17 other fires. The fire department also responded to nine calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $688,250 in fire loss - or about $12,514 per fire.

The department also received 161 false calls, including one malicious call and 160 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents.

The Maywood Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 36 active employees and 57 retired or inactive employees, was $2,112,581 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $57,097 for every fire in 2016.
