River Forest FD responds to 73 fires in 2016

River Forest Fire Department responded to 343 calls in 2016, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System obtained by the West Cook News.

The calls in River Forest included 73 fires - 57 structure fires, one vehicle fire and 12 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $32,620 in fire loss - or about $447 per fire.

The department also received 270 false calls, including four malicious calls and 266 other false calls.

The River Forest Firefighters' Pension Fund, which has 21 active employees and 23 retired or inactive employees, was $2,173,248 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $29,771 for every fire in 2016.
