Pittsfield City Council discusses Higbee School cleanup project

At a recent meeting, the Pittsfield City Council discussed the Higbee School clean-up project.

The council is the governing body for the city of Pittsfield. Members typically meets at 7 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from May through October, and at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from November through April.

The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, was held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting was held at the City Council room at 215 North Monroe Street. The following officers were present: Mayor John Hayden, City Clerk Cindy Prentice, and Aldermen Kevin Ketchum, Ed Knight, Paul Lennon, Robert Ritchart, Bill Scheiwe, Robert Wilson, Kevin Wombles and Robert Wood.

Mayor Hayden presided.

Alderman Ketchum moved to approve the minutes of the last regular Council meeting.

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

Roll Call: Yea: Knight, Lennon, Ritchart, Scheiwe,

Wilson, Wombles, Wood (7)

Nay: None (0)

Present: Ketchum (1)

The motion carried.

Discussion from the Gas Committee was tabled until further information can be obtained.

Alderman Wombles moved to approve Ordinance No. 1564, An Ordinance Relating to the Annual Appropriation for the Fiscal Year of the City of Pittsfield, Pike County, Illinois, Beginning May 1, 2016 and Ending April 30, 2017, on its first reading.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

Roll Call: Yea: Ketchum, Knight, Lennon, Ritchart,

Scheiwe, Wilson, Wombles, Wood (8)

Nay: None (0)

The motion carried.

Alderman Ritchart moved to suspend the rules and have the second reading of Ordinance No. 1564 (described above) by title only.

Alderman Wood seconded the motion.

Scheiwe, Wilson, Wombles, Wood (8)

Nay: None (0)

The motion carried.

Alderman Wombles moved to approve Ordinance No. 1564 (described above) on its second reading, by title only.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

The motion carried.

Alderman Wood moved to approve Change Order No. 3 for Leander Construction in the amount of $13,471.04.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

July 5, 2016

Alderman Ritchart moved to deny the request for placement of calcium on the lake road.

Alderman Ketchum seconded the motion.

Nay: None (0)

The motion carried.

Mayor Hayden said he received a call from Donnie Sapp stating they would begin the cleanup on Higbee School again this week.

The Animal Shelter has a few things left on the punch list but should be moving in this week or next.

Alderman Ritchart moved to approve the Finance Committee Report and the clerk be directed to issue the claims thereon.

Alderman Knight seconded the motion.

The motion carried.

Max Middendorf from MECO Engineering reported they will be meeting tomorrow regarding the Wastewater project, which is 61% complete.

The Fire Department building is coming along good.

Alderman Wood moved to go into closed session at 7:28 p.m. to discuss the sale of property.

Alderman Wilson seconded the motion.

Roll Call: Yea: Ketchum, Knight, Lennon, Scheiwe,

Wilson, Wombles, Wood (7)

Nay: Ritchart (1)

The motion carried.

Alderman Wilson moved to go back into open session at 7:33 p.m.

Alderman Lennon seconded the motion.

Scheiwe, Wilson, Wombles, Wood (8)

Nay: None (0)

The motion carried.

Alderman Knight moved to adjourn this meeting at 7:33 p.m.
