The River Trail Nature Center will host the 44th annual Maple Syrup Festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the center, 3120 Milwaukee Ave. in Northbrook.
The event will include a variety of activities, including the chance to make your own maple syrup, demonstrations on both past and present maple syrup production, tree-tapping hikes and more.
The festival is held this time of the year as it is the best time for tapping maple syrup, due to the combination of moderate daytime temperatures and below-freezing nighttime temperatures.
Admission to the festival is free, and parking will be available both at the nature center and at Allison Woods and Lake Avenue Woods East, where a free shuttle to the nature center will be provided.
For more information on the festival, call the nature center at 847-824-8360.
