Standardized test scores for Forest Park SD 91 elementary schools were below the county average despite spending the most of any elementary school in West Cook County, according to a report by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
The average passage rate in West Cook County was 24 percent, and the average spent per student was $12,092.
The ISBE report found that while Forest Park SD 91 spent an average of $18,067 per student, only 20 percent of Forest Park SD 91’s Field Stevenson Elementary School students and 21 percent of Forest Park SD 91’s Grant White Elementary School students who took the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) exam in 2015 passed -- well below the average passage rate for the county.
In contrast, River Forest SD 90, which operates two West Cook County elementary schools, achieved the highest passage rate in West Cook County -- with Lincoln Elementary School and Willard Elementary School posting a 75 percent and a 74 percent passage rate, respectively, while spending $14,756 per student.
Westchester SD 92-5’s Westchester Intermediate School also posted a passage rate of 27 percent and spent the third least amount ($10,561 per student) in the county.
Other schools posting above the county average were Hillside SD 93’s Hillside Elementary School (25 percent, $12,292 per student); River Forest SD 90’s Willard Elementary School (74 percent, $14,756 per student); and Lincoln Elementary School (75 percent, $14,756 per student).
Schools in Maywood-Melrose Park Broadview 89 scored poorly, with only 6 percent of Emerson Elementary School students meeting PARCC expectations. Garfield Elementary School reported a 16 percent passage rate, and Roosevelt Elementary School posted an 8 percent passage rate. The school district spent an average of $9,144 per student.
Schools posting below-average passage rates and below-average spending per student were Lindop SD 92’s Lindop Elementary School (21 percent; $11,376 per student spending); Bellwood SD 88’s McKinley Elementary School (8 percent) and Lincoln Elementary School (11 percent), with $10,857 in per student spending; and Berkeley SD 87’s Jefferson Elementary School (16 percent; $9,632 per student).
Forest Park Middle School scores poorly despite high spending per student
Similar to the elementary test scores, Forest Park SD 91’s Forest Park Middle School scored below the West Cook County middle school average despite spending the most per student in the county. Only 22 percent of its students passed the PARCC exam, while the school spent $18,067 per student.
For middle schools is West Cook County, the average passage rate was 42 percent, and the average spent per student was $14,461.
River Forest SD 90’s Roosevelt School posted the highest passage rate among middle schools in the county with 67 percent of its students meeting PARCC expectations and spent $14,756 per student in 2015.
Westchester SD 92-5’s Westchester Middle School reported a below-average passage rate of 37 percent and spent $10,561 per student.
Oak Park River Forest High School reports highest passage rate in West Cook County
Oak Park River Forest SD 200’s Oak Park River Forest High School boasted the highest passage rate in the county with 41 percent and also spent the most per student -- $20,838. Both results well exceeded the county average passage rate (18 percent) and the average spent per student ($16,924).
Proviso Township HSD 209’s Proviso West High School scored below the passage rate average at 9 percent, and Proviso East High School posted a below-average passage rate of 4 percent. Proviso Township HSD 209 spent $14,967 per student.
