Mark Pollard has been named the winner of the Brookfield Beautification Commission's 2025 Native Plant Garden Recognition Program. His front garden, located at 3219 Raymond Ave., was chosen by public vote as the top entry among more than a dozen nominees.
On October 15, Pollard received a Garden Recognition Award sign and a $50 gift card. He explained that his inspiration for using native plants came from the Lurie Gardens at Millennium Park in Chicago. "I always thought it looked beautiful, and we’ve kind of slowly been growing it over the last six or seven years," Pollard said.
His garden features Prairie Dropseed, Echinacea, Montrose White calamint, and other native grasses and plants. Pollard has also expanded his native plantings to his side yard and backyard, where his family keeps chickens.
The Beautification Commission selected three finalists for the award before opening the final vote to the public from October 3 to 10. Pollard’s garden received the most votes during this period.
The 2025 Native Plant Garden Recognition Award concludes this year’s program. The Brookfield Beautification Commission plans to continue recognizing gardens in 2026. Residents interested in learning more about the program can visit the Beautification Commission's page on the Village website.
