The Oak Park Police Department used its official Twitter account on August 26 and 27, 2025, to inform residents about ongoing programs and recent police activity in the Village of Oak Park.

On August 26, the department highlighted its Fleet Watch initiative. In a tweet, the department stated, "Did you know the more than 200 vehicles bearing the Village of Oak Park logo offer an added tool to communicate with law enforcement? Known as Fleet Watch, the program enlists the entire municipal workforce that is on the street every day conducting a wide range of activities." The Fleet Watch program leverages municipal vehicles and staff to improve communication between the public and law enforcement personnel during daily operations.

Also on August 26, the department recognized National Dog Day by featuring its community service dog. The tweet read: "Happy #NationalDogDay to Pawfficer Howie, the Oak Park Police Department community service dog. Residents can follow https://t.co/lKjUYr1UmN to get a behind-the-scenes look at the life of the therapeutic service dog and receive public safety information from the Police Department". Pawfficer Howie serves as a therapeutic resource for both residents and officers while also helping disseminate public safety information.

On August 27, another update was posted regarding recent police activity: "The latest summary of police activity is now posted at https://t.co/yT3cZWM28I." This periodic posting aims to keep residents informed about law enforcement efforts in their community.

Oak Park Police Department regularly communicates with residents through social media channels as part of broader community engagement efforts. These initiatives include programs like Fleet Watch and promoting transparency through timely updates on police activities. The department’s outreach aligns with contemporary trends in local policing that prioritize collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
