The Cicero Police Department has announced a collaborative effort with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the Illinois State Police, and over 200 local law enforcement agencies to enhance traffic safety across Illinois. The initiative aims to curb speeding and other traffic violations throughout July.

Superintendent Thomas Boyle highlighted the dangers of speeding, stating, “Over the past few years, we have seen an increase in careless and risky driving. No matter how safe of a driver you think you may be, speeding is dangerous.” He emphasized that speed limits are legal requirements, not suggestions.

Speeding poses risks by reducing a driver's ability to navigate safely around vehicles, obstacles, or unexpected curves. During this campaign, officers will focus on enforcing speed limits more strictly. Areas like Cicero Avenue from 31st Street to Pershing Road, Ogden Avenue from 26th Street to 31st Street, and Laramie Avenue from Roosevelt Road to Cermak Road will see heightened enforcement due to frequent speed-related incidents.

Motorists should expect increased patrols throughout Cicero and statewide from July 12-27. Those caught speeding will receive tickets as part of efforts to save lives.

This enforcement is part of the “Speeding Catches Up With You” campaign funded by federal highway safety funds through IDOT. It also aligns with IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign.
