FOIA Request to Village of Western Springs Regarding Email Keywords Search on May 23, 2025.
As representatives of West Cook News, a media organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Village of Western Springs. Our request seeks access to all emails from the past six months containing specific keywords: "Little league," "Scoreboard," "Advertising," and "Baseball."
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the records in electronic format. As members of the media, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the community.
In line with our commitment to transparency and accountability, we are also seeking a fee waiver for this request. Our work is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
