The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office will hold its fifth annual Missing Persons Day on May 10. This event is designed to help those with long-term missing loved ones by providing access to resources and experts.

Family members or friends of individuals who have been missing for more than a month can participate in this event. They will be able to file a missing persons report and submit DNA samples, medical records, photographs, and other relevant documents to assist in the search efforts. Additionally, emotional support services will be available for attending families.

The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office located at 2121 West Harrison St., Chicago.

In previous years, the event has drawn hundreds of participants seeking information about their missing relatives or friends. Notably, six families found closure following last year's Missing Persons Day.

“Our goal is to assist families in locating their loved ones by being a centralized resource for those searching for missing relatives and friends,” stated Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Ponni Arunkumar.

The event is organized in collaboration with several agencies including the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Chicago Police Department, Illinois State Police, as well as consulates and clergy.
