A Chicago resident and Mexico native, García has a history of public service, including terms in the Illinois Senate and Cook County Board of Commissioners.

On March 30, 2025, Congressman García shared a message to commemorate Eid: "Eid Mubarak IL-04! Today, we celebrate faith, community, and compassion. May this special day bring peace and blessings to you and your family."

The following day, March 31, 2025, García marked César Chávez Day by expressing concerns over labor rights, stating, "At a time when labor rights are under dangerous attacks by the Trump admin, we must honor Cesar Chavez Day by continuing his fight and standing up and speaking out for workers everywhere."

Later on the same day, García also recognized Trans Day of Visibility with a call for equality, sharing, "Today is Trans Day of Visibility, a reminder that trans rights are human rights. Let’s celebrate our transgender community and renew our commitment to fighting for equality and protection for all."
